DECEMBER ARCHIVES

December 1st
Proverbs 29:12-15

If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked. The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the LORD lighteneth both their eyes. The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever. The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.

Outlook from the In Book

John Maxwell said "Grow a leader - grow the organization.” in his book “Developing the Leaders Around You.” In other words, as the leader goes, so goes the organization. Where would he get such an idea? Oh yes, the Bible. That’s what verse twelve means. If the ruler is wicked, those around him are likely to be wicked as well. Why is that, you may wonder. It may occur for a number of reasons. First off a leader is going to bring on board those he feels will support his decisions. If his decisions are going to be shady he will need people of a shady character around him to get his ideas into play. But often it’s because the people around him have been trained to be like him. The ways of doing things are taught by the day to day operations. Many may not know any other way of doing things. It might just be all they have ever known. They too will then often treat other in deceitful manners just because that is what they have learned to do. Those that are not on the same social level as them are often looked down upon. That is until real trouble comes. Let them come down with a life threatening disease. Money and position can not by health. It may afford different treatment, but life itself is given by God. In our text it says; “The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the LORD lighteneth both their eyes.” It’s God who gives life to both the poor and affluent. Life and death seem to level the playing field.

The Word Walking In Me

When facing God someday I want to be on the side that had compassion on mankind. Like the king that faithfully judged the poor. How will we get compassionate leaders? We raise them to be that way. Godly parents setting Godly examples.

December 2nd
Proverbs 29:16-18

When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall. Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul. Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Outlook from the In Book

A vision! Sounds like someone closed their eyes and somehow received this vision. It brings memories of Bible stories where God brought information through prophets by visions. I’ve heard preachers tell of their vision for new buildings or schools. Missionaries talk about their vision for the mission field and people of another land. Evangelists share a vision for America and the church. Some back up this need and vision by using this verse. “Where there is no vision the people perish.” The problem is they stopped quoting to soon. The vision referred to in this verse is not to be our vision. It’s to be God’s vision. The word vision here means “Prophetic Revelation.” The second part of that verse says “but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” We no longer need God to implant visions in us for the future. The Bible is our complete “Prophetic Revelation.” God does not need another messenger with a new message. He needs messengers to carry out the old message that makes people new creations in Him. I believe the pastors, evangelists and missionaries were sincere. I believe God works in us and places burdens in hearts for places of service. I also believe those visions truly came from time in the Word and understanding God’s desire on their life. Let’s be sure we understand scripture as it’s written. Without a vision people do perish. Without a word from God, people will perish. How do we get that word? Read the Bible daily and share it often.

The Word Walking In Me

A song says; “Rescue the perishing, care for the dying, Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.” We might pray; Rescue us Oh Lord, from perishing without your word. Help us Father, not to navigate life without prophetic guidance from your Holy Word. Amen.

Proverbs 29:19-21

A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer. Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him. He that   delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him  become his son at the length.

Outlook from the In Book

“Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.” We hear the same thing today in different ways. Like, “Watch out for Fast talking salesmen.” or “Beware of Mr. Smooth talker.” The problem is not the speech, it’s the speaker. They like themselves just like they are. They  believe they’re right even if proven wrong. That is really part of our societies problem today. We want everyone to have such great self esteem. Now don't misunderstand, We ought to know that God created us and he loves us for who He made us to be. But He also warns us time and again about thinking to highly of ourselves. So why is it that Mr. Smooth and Fast talker have such a problem? Because they are all about telling you what they think and not taking time to think about what God thinks. Jesus warned the disciples in Matt. 10:19 not to take thought of what they would say, it would be given them. And again in Matt. 13:11 they are told that the Holy Spirit would give them what they should say. If I ask you what do you think about a world crisis, most often you have an opinion and can give it rather quickly. But if asked what do you think God’s word says on this same matter, you have to stop and think. The Holy Spirit brings verses to mind and you begin to think as God thinks. Often the two  opinions are not the same. So which one do you think is right?

The Word Walking In Me

Isaiah 31:2 says God never calls His words back. Psalms 12:6  says His words are pure as the purest silver. God’s words are always right when used in the contest they’re given. Want to be safe in what you say? Think on what God says and use that.

December 4th
Proverbs 29:22-25

An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression. A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit. Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not. The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

Outlook from the In Book

The word fear in the Bible often refers to reverence toward or respect of something or someone. It’s basically you  believing in and giving honor to what you trust. Like if you would say, “I fear that is true,” you might be trying to say, “I believe that is true.” In this passage today, that is how the word fear is used. What a man trusts in will be his snare in life. Some men put their trust in money. They want money so much that they spend their entire life   doing whatever it takes trying to earn it. And it never seems that there’s enough money to ever really satisfy them. The more they get the more they feel they need. And then toward the end of their life, when years of labor has helped them gain some practical  wisdom they often find out that all that work, all those hours of toil for wealth, never brought them any happiness. Some people want to be famous. They go to great lengths to try and get people to pay attention to them. And when and if people finally do, then they spend great amounts of time and money trying to gain back just a little bit of privacy. Going to great lengths to hide from the very  people they wanted to notice them just a short time ago. Getting what we want is not always getting what we need. But he, who puts his trust in God, finds a sweet safe place to live. And not just for a few year here on earth, but for eternity.

The Word Walking In Me

Money is not evil unless it controls your life. Being popular is not wrong if God has directed it to be so. But the only place we should ever place our trust in is Jesus. The Author and Finisher of our faith.

Proverbs 29:26-27

Many seek the ruler's favour; but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD. An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.

Outlook from the In Book

You just can not please everyone. You can try as you will, but it will never happen. And the reason is written in our verse today. If someone who does not know and love the Lord as their Saviour gains rule or has authority, those that do love the Lord are not happy. The things an unjust person wants often do not line up with scripture and a believer in Christ is uncomfortable. If a Christian receives the opportunity to be in authority, the world will hate them. Simply because they will oppose much of what the world wants to do. You see it everyday in the United States of America. The main political battles are over abortion and so called gay rights. The Home School / Public School debate and how and what we should be allowed to teach our own children is a hot topic. And when sending children to publically funded schools, what is being taught there is seldom agreed upon. In 2003 Judge Roy Moore was told to remove a statue which bore the ten commandments as it was declared to be unconstitutional because it was in the rotunda of a public court house. The words in the pledge to the United States of America which says; “One nation under God” has been debated and almost removed. The coins that bear the words; “In God We Trust” are also being looked at by judges in courtrooms thinking they may violate someone's rights and need to be changed. In Solomon's final words of these 29 Proverbs he makes a very simple and yet  lasting observation. “An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.”

The Word Walking In Me

So how do we know what to do? Verse 26 gives us a clue. We need not seek the favor of men. True wisdom in every matter and right judgment comes from the Lord. Simply aim to please God.

  December 6th

This year we are doing the Work Week Devotions
All Devotions will be written and distributed Monday through Friday.

On Saturday we suggest you re-read the Proverb
we have written from this past week
and the week to come.
Some weeks that will be the same chapter,
while other weeks that may be two chapters.

We have never given out Bible reading for Sundays.
The reason is simple to us.
We want you to be reading and studying whatever
the Lord has laid on your Pastors heart for that week.

Whatever his text is for the Morning and Evening Service
was given to him by God for your specific needs.

The principal for this is found in the book of Acts 17:10-11
And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea:
who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica,
in that they received the word with all readiness of mind,
and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

We hope you enjoy your weekend in God's word
and pray we might see you back here on Monday
as we begin another Week in the Word.

December 8th
Proverbs 30:1-4

The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal, Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man. I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy. Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?

Outlook from the In Book

Agur begins by telling us that he is not the brightest of men to walk the planet. Which truly is a contrast form the words of Solomon who, though he may not personally claim so, was called the wisest man to ever live (1 kings 3:12). And yet Agur makes an interesting observation in verse four. When it comes to knowing God and His infinite power, His wisdom and His grace we all begin to look a little less intelligent. I heard the joke of how Satan came to God and challenged Him by saying; “I can make a man just like you can.” So God said; “ok lets both make a man then.” Satan reached down and took a hand full of dirt to begin his creation. God stopped him and asked; “What are you doing?” Satan replyed; “I am going to make a man out of dirt just like you did.” To which God replied to Satan with; “Start by making your own dirt.” The absolute awesomeness of God is beyond our  wildest imaginations. And yet, if you will take just few minutes to muse on the idea of all that God can do it should bring you to a place of humbleness before Him. That is where Agur began. And friends, that is where we need to begin as well.

The Word Walking In Me

Take a moment and think about the power God has. What can He do if He would want to? Control the wind and waves? Child’s play for the creator of the same. Make the sun and moon stand still? It takes just a thought for the impossible to become reality with God. What is your greatest challenge? He can handle it.

Proverbs 30:5-9

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die: Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

Outlook from the In Book

There are hundreds and even thousands of books out today that are trying to explain, rearrange, re-write, define, deliberate, commentate, illiterate, make easy reading of, justify, rationalize, demonstrate, reconstruct, redo, present, reword,  clarify, disambiguate, illuminate, alter, illustrate, spell out, organize, fix up, paraphrase, amend, modify, revamp, boil down, render, revise, restate, translate, summarize, and condense the Bible. Some have even written other works that are separate from the Bible and call them just as important as the Bible. Some brazen individuals have even gone so far as to call their writings another gospel or another Bible. Some have re-written what they think is the Bible so many times that they don’t even know what they are re-writing from. Does God really need all that help? What if we took all the time we spent on reading all these other books, and just read the good old fashion King James Bible. If we really want to understand it why not ask the author, the Holy Spirit that resides in every believer, to interpret it to us? Even better, rather trying to change it to fit our lifestyle, why not just do what it says? Just a plain copy of the truth. I imagine that would take about one lifetime. Then if God wants us to read all those other books, he’ll make them available for us in heaven later.

The Word Walking In Me

Let’s get back to the one true book. The Holy Word of God. Let’s pick up and read our Bible. “Every word of God is pure”.

December 10th
Proverbs 30:10-14

Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty. There is a generation that curseth their   father, and doth not bless their mother. There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their  filthiness. There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up. There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.

Outlook from the In Book

It seems more than ever before that sin has been made legitimate in the eyes of many. It’s even been made ok in some main line religious denominations. Who gave them the right to call sin ok? For example, for most people in America the Bible was understood to be the final authority in truth for centuries. But now when the Bible says homosexuality is a sin and the world says it is a lifestyle, we who agree with and believe the Bible to always be right are called intolerant. When the Bible says that pre-marital sex is wrong and the world says, “they are consenting adults who does it hurt,” we who trust in God’s Holy Word to be right are looked at as being narrow minded. When the Bible says come ye out from among them and be ye separate and narrow is the way that leads to life everlasting, but the world says we are all alike and there are many roads that lead to God, we who maintain the Scripture to be accurate are looked upon as unable to see the big picture. And so if the rest of the Bible is not true, then probably those people in the world that question God’s Word don’t believe this verse either. “There is a generation that are pure in THEIR OWN EYES, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.” …. That can’t be this generation… Right? Or is it?

The Word Walking In Me

If you need to choose between what God says and what man says remember this. God has been around a lot longer and really knows more than the person telling you God’s wrong. Hmmm!

Proverbs 30:15-17

The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough: The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not, It is enough. The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

Outlook from the In Book

A story is told of a young teen who had many friends that wanted to buy him a birthday present. This was made especially hard as this teens father was exceptionally rich. He owned cars, several houses, and thousands of acres of land. All this teenager could imagine was available to him. As he matured the father made more and more things accessible to him. Yet his father was wise enough not to give him everything all the time. If the teens conduct was good, the father would grant him privilege to all he could need. If this teen was disobedient the father withheld the advantage of enjoying that wealth. So the teen asked his friends to buy him things his dad would control when he was bad. When the father found out he was hurt. All this young man could ever need was there if he would only obey. But that was not enough. So the father then took the gifts from the young man as well. Now not only had he lost the use of the gifts, but also the good graces of his loving father as well. If you put yourself in the place of this teen and God in the place of this father you might understand when enough is enough. You see God is truly the wealthiest of all. He owns everything. If we are obedient He wisely gives to us access  to all we need and will use correctly. As we mature spiritually He trusts us with more. Sadly many try to find a way to get everything outside of the will of God.

The Word Walking In Me

When is enough enough? Probably when we realize we already have access to it all already. God give to us what we truly need.

Proverbs 30:18-20

There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not: The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid. Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.

Outlook from the In Book

Agur stood in absolute amazement of some things on this earth. He watched as the large majestic eagle would open its wings and soar across the sky. It’s large wings allowing it to guide almost effortlessly with no trace of its flight. He was taken by the way a snake with no legs could move its body back and forth and slither across a rock with no apparent discomfort or damage and also left not visible trail behind. He looked on with wonderment at how a large heavy wooden vessel loaded with cargo could stay afloat on the waves of the water. And as the wake was visible it soon would disappear back into the flow of the water. He seemed in awe of how man could court a woman, their hearts melt into one, but looking back at the romance it seemed as though it was always meant to be. As breathtaking as these things were and amazed as he was at them, he also found a great sense of confusion as to how an adulterous woman could commit her sin and have no remorse as though she had only done what is natural. Agur might have a heart attack today if he were to look around at how some people treat sin. As though it were not really sin but only a mistake, a lifestyle or as some  people say; “it’s just the way I am.” In Eccl. 12:14 it says; “For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” Amazing huh!

The Word Walking In Me

God gave us so much good to be amazed at. The birth of a child, the love of parents, and nature itself. Let’s give back to God for His gifts to us. An obedient heart full of wonder in Him.

Proverbs 20:21-23

For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it   cannot bear: For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat;  For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress

Outlook from the In Book

As Agur continues his observations in life he sees three things that are really disturbing to mankind, and a fourth thing that is unbearable. What are these things? First there is the case of a servant who is abruptly exalted to the level of leadership. All too often the responsibilities of this role will go to their head and they become obnoxious to deal with. I remember when I worked in a restaurant with two other managers. We all said; “If I ever become the general manager I will never be like that.” Then one of the guys got that job. Overnight he became an absolute tyrant. They finally fired him. The second thing Agur sees is that when a person of low estate is suddenly given all they could want it seems they forget where they came from. People who win state lotteries are often a great example of this. The third disquieting thing is the broken home of an odious or hateful person when married. What normally brings great joy to most people in being married and having a life partner to enjoy life with turns ugly. Instead of a house of joy the partner soon becomes a full time target for their hate. But fourthly this is the worst. When someone whom you trusted catches the eye of your spouse. Slowly the affection which should be given to you and your family is taken away by another. Agur is so right. The wandering eyes of a spouse ruin more homes than anything else. Satan uses this too often not only to ruin homes but extended families, churches and in some cases communities.  The fourth we can not bear.

The Word Walking In Me

We need to be thankful for how God has provided for our needs. Not only how, but also with what and or with whom. The grass is never greener on the other side once you get there. It’s grass!

Proverbs 30:24-28

There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise: The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer; The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks; The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands; The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces.

Outlook from the In Book

Agur not only noticed the bad things in the world, but also how the smallest of God’s creations can teach us all lessons we might apply to our lives. He looks at the ants and sees how they prepare for the future. If the ant stops in the summer to just enjoy the weather he might not be ready when bad weather comes. So he keeps working delaying gratification. As a Christian we too must keep working until Christ comes. Our gratification will be by His reward. He also saw the conies which are small animals that look sort of like rabbits and sort of like moles. But they can’t hop or dig. So they position themselves between rocks for protection. We too need to realize our abilities and limitations and position ourselves in the Lord for protection. David often called God his rock and fortress. Agur looks next to the locusts. A small creature, but feared by many of that day. Locusts would come in great swarms and eat everything in their path. Weak alone, but together unstoppable. In this we see a purpose of the church. Together we can do for God what alone we can not. And finally he gleans wisdom from a common spider. When God created a spider he created a miraculous creature. If a spider falls, before it hits the ground its fall is broken. The spider reaches inside and creates a silk-like strand to break its fall. We too have in us all we need to survive as God’s creation. When we reach inside we find the Holy Spirit dwelling there to comfort us in life's greatest trials.

The Word Walking In Me

Also notice the spider ends up residing in the kings palace. No matter where you began in life remember, as a believer you’re a child of the King of Kings. You too will live with the King someday.

Proverbs 30:29-31

There be three things which go well, yea, four are comely in going: A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any; A greyhound; an he goat also; and a king, against whom there is no rising up.

Outlook from the In Book

Stepping out in style! Looking Good! Those are a couple of ways people might say you look first rate in what your doing or at least how you appear while in the public eye. Agur shares how we as Believers might be “Looking Good” in the eyes of God and man by directing our attention to another group of four. He begins with a comparison to the Lion. A lion, with bold courage stands his ground among others as he knows that his strength and wisdom in the hunt is too strong for them. So too must a Christian walk through this world with their head up, not fearing what the world can do to them. Not because of our strength. Because 1 John 4:4 says; greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. Agur next looks to the greyhound. Greyhound simply means animal, girt in the loins or ready for running. They are today watched by many for their grace as they run. We also must run the race of life with dignity as the world watches on. Third is the he goat. They lead and do not follow and they love to climb to stand on higher ground. Oh dear friend in Christ we should lead this world and not follow in its sinful ways. Standing on higher ground in morals and mannerisms. Finally Agur points us to the King. As he walks amid the people that he rules with love and compassion, there is a reverence toward who he is. Believer too should have a life that exemplifies the King of Kings. So as we walk into a room, filthy communication might cease in honor of the Lord we represent. The lion, greyhound, he goat and the king walk with dignity among those around. Remember you also are a child of the King.

The Word Walking In Me

As you look at the four honorable mentions you have to think, they are all not always the most beautiful on the outside. But that is not what makes them special. Like you it’s what's inside that counts.

Proverbs 30:32-33

If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth. Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.

Outlook from the In Book

If you stand in the rain unprotected you will get wet. If you stick your hand in a fire you will get burned. When you cut yourself you will bleed. You might by now be thinking, "what is he trying to say? All these things are just common sense.” Well that’s what Agur is concluding his only written chapter in the Bible with. Just some very common sense. But very important words to live by. He says if you have a tendency to brag on yourself, don’t. Or if the idea of bringing shame on another comes to mind, don’t. People hate braggers and bullies and so does God. Agur shows us what to do and how suddenly it must be done with a neat little phrase. “Lay thine hand upon thy mouth” is a depiction of someone in mid sentence suddenly having a hand muzzle their statement. If you’re bragging or badgering and suddenly realize what you’re doing he says just stop it. Right that moment. Not another word. Why? He give you two simple but great examples. The first is just like milk if churned long enough it will produce butter. Next, If you twist or punch a nose hard enough it will spill blood. Finally, continued conceited or cantankerous conversation produces conflict. Seems simple when looking at it on paper. The trick is to practice it in public. Agur has given us several things in his chapter of Proverbs to help us live a peaceful, honorable and contented life. Now it’s up to us to either listen, learn and live for the Lord.

The Word Walking In Me

In the New Testament in James 1:22 it says; “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” Who does it say is deceived if we live to our self and do not obey the scripture? Our own selves. What a shame it would be to have all we needed for a happy life and we deceived ourselves into thinking there was a better way. Live for Jesus and live with joy.

Proverbs 31:1-3

The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him. What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows? Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

Outlook from the In Book

Who in the world is King Lemuel? The majority of scholars believe it was the name that Solomon's mother gave to him. There is no record of a King Lemuel of either Israel or Judah. For 29 chapters we heard the wisdom of Solomon as he conveyed the wisdom God had given him to his son. Chapter 30 was the words of Agur. But now this final chapter is devoted to the warnings and wisdom of his mother. Three times she asks the question “What?” As if asking God, What Shall I say to my young son. She mention “Son of my vows.” A Vow made to turn him to God and teach this young mind the ways of the Lord. Even the name Lemuel that she uses for him conveys this vow. The name means “Unto God” or “With God.” As parents today often will dedicate their children to the Lord so apparently had she. And now she is asking what? What should I say? Think for a second. If your most important conversation with your child were going to be recorded for all  generations to come to read, what would you say. Her first words of wisdom she asks him to contemplate is that about relationships. Be careful she says in the ways of love. Remember who Solomon's mother was? Bathsheba. The one thing that tarnished the reputation and testimony of the godly man David his father was his lust for the flesh. How well she knew the destructive power that this sin can have over a man. Her very first warning is to keep yourself pure. Oh how well her son should have listened.

The Word Walking In Me

Solomon did obey his mothers voice and the Word of God for many years. Recalling Deut. 17:17 Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: But later he strayed and these words came back to haunt him. His many wives did turn his heart. God’s word is sure. So too are the words of a godly mother.

Review Proverbs 30-31 and this past week's Devotionals if Desired

December 22nd
Proverbs 31:4-7

It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted. Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

Outlook from the In Book

In church we sing a song; “I’m a Child of the King, A Child of the King, with Jesus My Saviour I’m a Child of the King.” children of the king are called Prince or Princess. In the next two weeks people all over the world will be celebrating Christmas and New Years at Parties and family gatherings. A lot of them include alcohol. Sadly, many drinking that alcohol will include people who call themselves Christian. The Bible says Children of the King, a prince or princess, should not drink. Why? “Lest they drink, and forget the law.” Not just the law of man, but also the law of God. I can hear some of you now; “we’re not under the law.” You’re right. But when you got saved you were saying I love you God and will obey your commandments. We obey the law now not because of the law, but because of our love for God. Also, we might “pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.” We can ruin our testimony for the rest of the next year. They see us doing as they do and think; “do I need their God? I’m just like them.” Who should use alcohol? The medical professionals of that time used it to relieve the pain of death in some, and those with heavy hearts. (Heavy hearts are not the lonely and sad for those of you who thought here is my excuse to get plowed.) The Hebrew definition for “heavy hearts” is “Bitter of Soul.” Should a Christian be Bitter of Soul? NO. Rejoice in the Lord always the Bible says. Celebrate Christ your Salvation.

The Word Walking In Me

This year resolve to end the year right. Let’s not let Satan steal our testimony that we tried all year to convey to our lost friends. Stand Up for Jesus. Leave the Alcohol to the lost. Act like royalty. Let’s LIVE FOR CHRIST. And really enjoy this Christmas Season.

December 23rd
Proverbs 31:8-10

Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction. Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy. Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

Outlook from the In Book

Lemuel's mom is reminding her son not forget others around you. Oh how easy we begin to take one another for granted in this fast paced life we are caught up in. But each of us should look to those God has placed in our lives. Especially within our home. Men, it would be a wonderful thing today if we would just thank God for the blessing He has given us in our wives. They are truly a wonderful blessing from God. In the very first book of the Bible, God looked at man and said I need to make someone that will complete and help that man, and He began to design the perfect lady for you. Women, it would be a great time for you to thank God for creating you with all the special talents and abilities that only you have that makes you the completer of your husband. What an awe inspiring task to take on, and yet you do it everyday of your life with him. Whatever and whoever your husband is has a lot to do with what you have helped him to become. Both of you should be thankful that God did not have you to do this alone. He gave to you the Holy Spirit which resides in you to help you as you go about fulfilling Gods good pleasure in your relationship. And to singles, you need not worry if there’s anyone for you. God has a  special purpose for your life. If that purpose includes a mate then know that He has made someone just for you. Don’t get in a hurry; wait on the Lord. Thank Him for his design in life and marriage. Then when you say I Do, be all that God intended for you to be.

The Word Walking In Me

To really treasure something you must have respect for the giver and find value in the gift. God is the greatest giver of all time. The gift He has given you was well thought out and designed with you in mind. Show God how much you appreciate His thoughtfulness today by how you treat His gift to you.

December 24th
Proverbs 31:11-14

The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

Outlook from the In Book

Trust. Something people take for granted until they do not have it any longer. Trust. It’s shows that people believe in you. Trust. A virtue, once lost, often hard to regain. But we all need people to trust in us. Lemuel is told that when he finds the right girl, one that he can trust, it is worth more than all the spoils of war. Trust brings about a peace of heart. It’s knowing there is someone you can believe in. Often we look at trust as something we earn. Actually it is something that is given away. If we just met and you asked me if you could borrow my car, there is a good chance that won’t happen. I don’t know you and so I don’t know if I can trust you. Once I do know you it is then up to me to decide if I want to place my trust in you or not. You can do all you want to earn my trust. But if I choose not to give it there is nothing you can do. To give the gift of your trust to someone else is truly a great and wonderful thing. To give it to one who is unworthy of your trust is called grace. God gave to us the name of His Son and trusts we will do those things that would bring honor to Him. Did we earn that? No. So then do we serve Him to pay Him back? No. We serve Him because He loves us so much and trusts us with His gospel. He gave us His trust and the name Christian, Christ like, when we did not deserve it. Therefore as the woman in this chapter we too should do good and not evil for the sake of the name we are entrusted with. We need to work to make sure those around see our Lord and Saviour in the best possible light.

The Word Walking In Me

God trusted us with His Name and the gospel. What are we doing with that trust? Today is a great day to let God see He did not trust us in vain. Lets live, work, and rejoice in this trust we are given.

Proverbs 31:15-17

She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her   household, and a portion to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

Outlook from the In Book

Idleness causes all kinds of problems. Actually it’s not that we’ve nothing to do, we just want to do something else. But we’ve let others dictate our lives so much we can’t think anymore. How unimaginative. Let me tell you of some people who were   exchanging gifts that cost nothing. As one presenter their gift they exclaimed; “this gift is something that will let your imagination work to its fullest. This item can be used to start a fire to keep you warm for a moment or you can place food on the end of it to be cooked over a fire. It can scratch those hard to reach places when your alone or you can mark equal lines on it and use it to measure things. It’s a great companion when going for a hike. You can us it to lean on, defend yourself, write on the ground so you know where you’ve been or to prop up materials to make shelter if needed. Modified versions of this gift have been used to conduct great orchestras and drummers use them to make music in those orchestras. To you it might only be a stick, but with just a little imagination it can be much more.” The woman in our verses today saw she had a role to play in this world. Too often women today are told these are demeaning roles in life. The place of a devoted wife and mother are seen as less than glamorous. They’re told they can be so much more. But just like people overlook all a stick can be, they too overlook all that a mother and wife really are.

The Word Walking In Me

Having life's values prioritized as God gave them to both men and women is so rewarding. Placing God first, family second, next are others and finally self. We see that priority in the woman in our verses. To those around here she may have been a simple housewife. As ordinary as a stick. But to God she was virtuous. Valuable. So who should we try to please anyway? God or man?

December 26th
Proverbs 31:18-21

She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

Outlook from the In Book

The virtues of the woman in this story continue here with her diligence, thriftiness and charity. She handles the wool and makes with it warm garments of scarlet. Not only does she make enough for her own family to stay warm in the cold, but she works to minister to the needs of others as well. She enjoys using the abilities God has given to her. Many modern bible translations have looked a the term scarlet and said because it is a color that is double dyed for its depth and richness this word must mean double garments to keep warm. But no where else in scripture is it translated as anything other than scarlet. The word directs us to the origin of the color. In eastern culture scarlet was obtained from a worm like insect called “Tola or the Crimson grub”. When crushed and boiled it would produce a very deep rich crimson color. Used most often for the very best wool. Looked upon as the color of royalty. The verse is referring to the fact that this woman has provided the very best she could for her family. It is this “Worm” or “tola” that Christ is likened to in Psalm 22:6. We are told there of the torturous and inhumane method of execution by which Christ will shed His precious crimson blood. It is by that blood our sins are washed away and we are clothed in garments of righteousness. Not our righteousness, but His . He provided the very best for His own as did the precious woman in Chapter 31.

The Word Walking In Me

Gods Word is correct to the very smallest of detail. Nothing overlooked and nothing over stated. We really don't need another translation. God has provided the very best for His own.

Proverbs 31:29-31

Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Outlook from the In Book

Where are all those popular kids from High School? You know who I’m talking about. The ones that everyone seemed to liked. Admit it; somewhere deep inside even you liked them just a little. I wonder what they are doing now. I don’t see them on TV or read about them in the papers. All that popularity was good for a short time but what is it good for today? What about that knockout beautiful girl or the drop dead good looking guy? Have you seen them lately? That fact is that popularity or favor of man comes and goes. It seems to change from year to year. Beauty, physical, outer beauty that is, also changes. That doesn’t mean you’re not attractive anymore. It’s just a fact that our bodies change with time. But the character of a person is what is really remembered. A man or woman that loves the Lord and has some deep rooted Godly morals seems to have a special quality about them that  others can not imitate or explain. They are often referred to by phrases like “He’s a good man,” “she’s a godly woman” or “there’s just something about them that is different.” Inner beauty from God goes on forever. People respect God fearing people even if they appear that they don’t. Let God shine through you.

The Word Walking In Me

Today people are going to form an opinion about you. And you and only you can choose what that opinion may be. But you don’t have to develop that character alone. Ask God today to help you be all that you can be for Him. Then people will automatically see the best “YOU” ever, because they will see “JESUS” in you.
