AUGUST ARCHIVES

August 1st
Proverbs 19:9-12

A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish. Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes. The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression. The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.

Outlook from the In Book

What is it that causes some people to see something so good, find something so precious, have something so valuable, and then they walk away from it. Then after they walk away from it they complain because they don’t have it anymore? Right about now you’re probably saying, “What are you talking about”. Well let me explain. Yesterday in verse 8 it says, “He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul”. Another way to read that is, if someone loves their very soul, all that they really are, and all that they ever hope to be, they will get want in life what can help them the most. So what is that? WISDOM! In proverbs 9:10 it says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom”. So for a man to get wisdom, true wisdom, they need to hear about, and reverence God. They need to understand that He sent His Son to save and forgive sin. He must realize that he is a sinner and without Christ there is no hope for salvation. But with Jesus there is eternal hope. Not just someday, TODAY. Yet thousands of people every year sit under the preaching of God’s word, hear about a Christ that loves them and can and will help them, but get up and leave the same way they came in. And then have the nerve to get outside and ask, “Why won’t God help me?” He just tried to! To delight in the Lord is not seemly, or not enjoyable, for a foolish person. How sad.

The Word Walking In Me

If you don’t know Jesus as Saviour or you know Him, but have walked away from His blessing, might I ask you both to do the same thing? Ask God to forgive you and come home to His loving care. God is a loving God, but He is also a just God and can’t be near your sin. Forsake your sin and come to Jesus.

August 2nd

This year we are doing the Work Week Devotions
All Devotions will be written and distributed Monday through Friday.

On Saturday we suggest you re-read the Proverb
we have written from this past week
and the week to come.
Some weeks that will be the same chapter,
while other weeks that may be two chapters.

We have never given out Bible reading for Sundays.
The reason is simple to us.
We want you to be reading and studying whatever
the Lord has laid on your Pastors heart for that week.

Whatever his text is for the Morning and Evening Service
was given to him by God for your specific needs.

The principal for this is found in the book of Acts 17:10-11
And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea:
who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica,
in that they received the word with all readiness of mind,
and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

We hope you enjoy your weekend in God's word
and pray we might see you back here on Monday
as we begin another Week in the Word.

Proverbs 19:13-16

A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping. House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD. Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger. He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.

Outlook from the In Book

Magazines flaunt sexuality. Almost every Television show has someone who either portrays a homosexual lifestyle or is openly gay. This misconception that this is a lifestyle and not a sin is eroding the moral fiber and Biblical stand against this perverse practice. Almost every social gathering on TV and movies has a waiter walking around delivering drinks to everyone. It appears to be the norm and ok. None of these people on our screens seem to have a problem leaving the party and driving home. If they can do it, I’m sure I can too. NOT SO. Alcohol claims more lives in a year than almost any other one substance. Often those killed are innocent people that were not even drinking. They were just out in public and someone, whose faculties were impaired for a brief moment by alcohol or drugs or both, took their life. Not meaning to I’m sure, but the dead person is dead just the same. Screaming music of the rock culture and rap generation have lyrics that would send shivers up and down our spine if someone just walked up on the street and start talking to us about killing someone or slapping a woman around. But put it to music and it can be a hit. These are a very few of the dangers that face our young people and adult lives today. How can we steer clear from these things? There is a clear answer in today’s verse. He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.

The Word Walking In Me

It’s important to be careful with your life. Who is leading you? Hollywood, TV Programs and the world are for the most part sinful in their desires. Greed, advertising dollars and lust for power drive them. God’s way is the right way, always.

Proverbs 19:17-20

He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again. Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying. A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again. Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

Outlook from the In Book

Feed the Hungry; Help the Children; Starving in Africa. Every day it seems there is a new relief program for some people group somewhere. People on TV, Radio, in your mail, asking for help for these starving people. They are telling the truth, these people do need help. But there are millions of people living within your own country that are starving and homeless every single day. It is never a bad idea to help others in any part of the world. But I am afraid that for most people, when they put a dollar in an envelope to feed a stranger they miss out on the maximum blessings. If God returns to us what we give to the poor and needy with the right heart toward the Lord, what can you expect from a dollar? I guess a dollar! But what if you were to put your arms around someone and would show them some love? What would God give you back? LOVE! What if you were to take a little time out of your month and donate it to the local shelter for the homeless? If you donate time what would you get back? TIME. How about if you spent a little time praying for someone in need? What would you get in return? Someone lifting you up with your needs and God’s ear attentive. For a dollar a dollar. But for time – Precious time. For prayer – sweet communion with God. For Love – The love of God in return. What would you rather have? A dollar?

The Word Walking In Me

Spend time with God today and ask Him how you might be able to be a benefit to those who are a little less fortunate than you right now. We never know, that could very well be us one day.

Proverbs 19:21-24

There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand. The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar. The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil. A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

Outlook from the In Book

Our family use to like to put together puzzles. There was always a puzzle on the table. Most everyone in the family would stop by, look for a few pieces and place them where they needed to be. Sometimes we’d find a few pieces that went together but couldn’t see where they belonged in the puzzle. They would set connected beside the puzzle until we found there home. On    occasion we’d lose a piece. How discouraging to complete a puzzle and find one piece be missing. Later when we’d find it we would try to figure out which puzzle it went with. The only way we could possibly know is that we had seen the completed puzzle. Otherwise it’s just a colored funny shaped piece of cardboard. Our lives are much like these puzzles. We want to believe that we have things figured out, but truthfully we don’t. Only God who has seen the whole plan together can really know about how our life fits with the lives of others. He sees the beginning and the end. We might try to fit here or there, but without God’s guidance we are just be a piece out of place. Occasionally we find a few others we know we fit with. Some family, friends and church that seem to just click together so well. But how do we fit in the bigger picture? Since only God really knows it is important to follow His leading and guidance in life as He places us where we belong.

The Word Walking In Me

In case some may think, “I don’t fit anywhere,” we use to have those puzzle pieces too. We tried them and set them aside but kept looking for a there place. They did fit somewhere. And when we found out where, it seemed those were very special parts.

Proverbs 19:25-27

Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge. He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach. Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.

Outlook from the In Book

Today it is so easy to hear several viewpoints on every idea around. Just the other day in the news there were young girls in a school in Michigan that were caught on video beating up another young girl in that school. When interviewed and asked why they did such a terrible thing, their response was that this girl flaunted her lesbianism in their face all year long and no one would do anything about it. Now the school in Michigan are spending thousands of taxpayers dollars to bring in therapists and psychologists to teach the teachers and staff on how to train the students of the schools in Michigan to be tolerant of diversity. Now before I go too far you must understand something. I’m not for today’s youth beating up all those who claim to be gay. But why is government teaching the majority to tolerate the minority? Why not teach those that claim to be gay to be more discrete about their sinful lifestyle? Why? The world loves sin. They will try and teach us that sin is ok and we should accept it.  The Bible clearly says  “Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.” We must judge all wisdom by the unerring Word of God. If God calls it sin, it’s simply sin.

The Word Walking In Me

Our lot in life is not to beat up everyone that disagrees with us. It is to present the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and allow God through the Holy Spirit to do a work in their heart. It is also to be constantly in the Word of God ourselves so that we can know the difference. “Study to show yourself approved unto God…….”

Proverbs 19:28-29

An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity. Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.

Outlook from the In Book

Dogs do what dogs do. They bark, growl, beg for food, and want your attention. Cats do what cats do. They purr, claw at things, and generally walk around like the own everything. Birds fly, fish swim, and monkeys, well they monkey around swinging in the trees. None of that surprises us. What would shock us is if a dog was to wrap his tail around a branch and swing to the next limb. Or if a fish walked down the street or we went fishing and caught a live cat. Why would that surprise us? Well it’s just not  suppose to be that way. That’s why. So why is it so surprising to us that the lost people in this world act lost? They are simply  doing what comes natural. The ungodly scorneth judgement.  They hate being told they are wrong. Why? Because their sinful nature is calling them to rebel against God’s will and way. The mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity. They feed off of sin. So what would ever make someone stop? Well if you’re saved, what made you stop? You realized that there is a price to pay for sin. Judgement has been prepared for the scorners. In Romans 6:23 in the New Testament it says that the wages of sin is death. So how do you get out of paying that price or facing that judgement? By understanding the second part of Romans 6:23. It also says the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. It’s realizing that the price of death has been paid by Him and that the judgement reserved for you has been removed if you will  accept Him as your Saviour.  For by His stripes we are healed.
